Cases Of Drunk Driving
Drunk driving is where a person who is under the influence of alcohol above a given limit drives. In most cases, it is a criminal offense for it is against the law. When drunk driving occurs, more often than not, accidents happen as a result. Lives are lost, and property belonging to the state and individual persons get destroyed as a result of these accidents.
Most of the drunk driving cases happen during the night, weekends and over the holidays. These are the times most people are free and see it fit to unwind from their daily occupations. It is during the peak times that most accidents due to drunk driving occur. Some of the accidents may be fatal or could maim the victims and even the drivers.
Drunk driving accidents occur so easily. This is because when a person is drunk, they lose so much of their mental capacity and end up behaving irresponsibly. They then commit traffic offenses like over speeding, they run road signs that say indicate bumps and causing an accident.
There is so much publicity that has been done to reduce cases of drunk driving. Some taxi companies even base their marketing on the same but despite all that, drunk driving still controls the day. These cases can be reduced when taxi drivers are strategically placed outside drinking spots so that a drunk person may have an alternative causing damage to themselves as well as of other road users. In cases where drivers go to drink with their cars, then it may be hard for them to take a cab and leave their vehicles behind and for this reason, they drive while drunk. Or maybe the driver spends all the money on the alcohol, and they end up with no cab money left. It is always a trend to people who own cars to drive after drinking
Another way of preventing the drunk driving is when traffic police become more cautious during the peak times. This mostly works because the penalties out in place are tough on the crime, it being an offense against the country’s law. Huge fines may be imposed on the crime and/or jail term if the offense resulted in fatalities or property destruction. The drunk driver can end up losing their driving license.
Drunk driving has a lot of negative outcomes for all the parties involved in it. It is a menace that will always have to be faced because people cannot stop taking alcohol. The best approach would be to make the penalties even tougher to bear. A weight is on people to gather the lessons learnt from the results of drunk driving and bring changes to generations to come. From at a young age, kids should be taught about drunk driving and its grave results. This way, the generational change is achieved and thus doing away with drunk driving.
